Listening to Cream on Radio Paradise

I'm lucky enough to have survived this era of music. It's amazing what qualified as good music in the '60s. Artists could never get away with that now and be considered top level.

The subtlety surely that glad in this context means the opposite, similar to "sitting on top of the world" or the word "Pravda" siting above page after page of utter cock for the thick end of 100years.

It is amazing that these guys put out 4 great albums during a 3 year period! This is in spite of the fact that Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were always at odds, sometimes leading to physical altercations, with Clapton often acting as a referee. This animosity lasted well into their later years.

Yeah, it got on my late father's nerves too. We were riding along in my car one day when this came on FM. After listening for a few minutes, I could see he became visibly annoyed. Too bad so many here can't get into the repetition. Sometimes when you're glad, that's all you really have to say about it. Probably made more sense in the 60s if you were stoned.

Most of the time I'm glad that I'm glad. It's a good feeling. Then, most of time I'm glad that I'm able to be glad about being glad. That's an even better feeling. Imagine not being able to do that. So glad I can.
Also.. I'm glad to hear the backstory on the song.

Is Jack Bruce even attempting to "sing" to a melody? His singing in some way is dissociated from the song itself. Maybe deliberate, but odd. Dissonance as a vocal tool is not the usual, is it? I think this is a pretty great piece of work.

A friend once told me that this song came from what was called a "field holler", sung by black slaves in the fields. Skip James took that chant and made a song out of it.

Questioning the repetition of the lyrics is missing the point: what the hell is the message here? These might be thrown-together lyrics (rock does allow this) but maybe there is another level? Maybe not exactly profound, but trying to say something almost hidden?
