A sweet romantic place
Beautiful people everywhere
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
For you
For you
For you
It's a wonderful time to be here
It's nice to be alive
Wonderful people everywhere
The way they comb their hair
Makes me want to say
It's a wonderful place
It's a wonderful place
It's a wonderful place
For you
For you
For you
Hey!
Tell me what I see
Hey you with the new clothes on
You can shake it to me all night long
Hey hey
It's a beautiful world we live in
A sweet romantic place
Beautiful people everywhere
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
For you
For you
For you
It's not for me (It's a beautiful world)
For you (It's a beautiful world)
For you (It's a beautiful world)
For you (It's a beautiful world)
Not me (it's a beautiful world)
(It's a beautiful world)

Made me look up more DEVO songs on Spotify and read the explanations - containing this:
"... they developed their own philosophy of "de-evolution" -- the idea that instead of evolving, humankind has actually regressed, as evidenced by the dysfunction and herd mentality of American society."
I cannot help feeling that DEVO had a point, and that with Trump 2.0 the American society (and others, too) has entered the next phase on that downward slope.
Skiing Downhill is more exhilarating than uphill cross country... Just Sayin....
I just realized the lyrics are ironic.
Go watch the music video. The juxtaposition of the song and lyrics with the images is incredibly clear and jarring.
Don't sleep on DEVO... Mark Mothersbaugh is some kind of savant. He went on to do soundtrack work for the show Rugrats, Marvel superhero movies, Wes Anderson, tons of cherished animated movies...
I'm convinced he's going to win the best score oscar in the next few years.
I just realized the lyrics are ironic.
Are you We Todd Did?
Devo at the old Met Center in Bloomington, MN (Northstar's hockey arena). They were on treadmills and showed movies. Best image from the movies was the stop-action Barbie doll ripping Ken's legs off.
GREAT show! I saw them in Columbus, Ohio on that tour.

Same here, I thought it was Flock of Seagulls at first.

Funny, about 15 years ago, saw Bow Wow Wow, Flock of Seagulls, and Devo in Irvine, CA. Great show! Three completely different sounds and all three rocked after all these years.

I saw them in Oct. 1978 at The Bottom Line in NYC, I had to borrow a friend's driver's license to get in since I was under-age. Fortunately, NYS licenses didn't have photos back then. Great show.

Man, I would have loved seeing that show.
I've never been a rabid fan of Devo, but I've never heard a Devo song I didn't like. They really do pack a heavy sense of irony in their music. This song is an obvious example of this.
I've always loved their way of delivering an anti-establishment punchline within such a socially digestible song structure.
Devo is SOOOOOOOOO underrated.

Great tunes! This is a good one too. I'll take any DEVO I can get here.
Classic!

It was hilarious to us insensitive, callous folks in the audience who saw great humor in the repetition of baby/fork/voltage interaction. My buddies and I were immediate Devo converts. "Better living through chemistry." Amen.
Gotta go dance now.

I do too! Even 2 years later.....
Devo is going to be playing a show here in my town in two days from *now*, along with Ben Folds and the Silversun Pickups, and so SO wish I was going...

DEVO were always God Tier Trolls; mad respect.

The snide lyrics still make me laugh after all these years; great band.
Yep. Classic stuff.

The Target marketing Execs didn't listen to all the lyrics, before they signed up.
Another win by Devo. I can see them in the meeting with Rod Rooter of Target (watch their original videos) discussing the usage of the song, and finally getting the last laugh.

Have a look at the original video produced as a companion to this song,
then come back and tell us whether you still feel like shopping.

LMAO

And I realize, it's a beautiful world for them, not me.
Then I remember to take my meds.
