Another decision on the way
Well here it comes, here comes a covered display
Of preferences to make
Here comes a knock on the door
Open it for an opportunity
Well here it comes, here comes a physical rain
Of memories to be made
Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time
'N there it was, it was the perfect take
And were you asleep or awake?
There it was, it was a perfect time
To speak your mind
'N there it was, it was the chance of a lifetime
It flew right by and what did you do?
Well there it was, it was another day
For memories to be made
Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time
I've got my eyes wide open all the time
Eyes wide open
Because you never know
What you might see
Memories to be made
Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time
I've got my eyes wide open
Eyes wide open
Because you never know
What you might see
My desktop speakers are sorely inadequate for this song.
I have the KEF LSX2 with SVS 1000 on & under my desktop. I think they are the best combination you can put there compared to price and quality.
I wish they still made music........
In a recent interview in the Rolling Stone, Jakko Jakszyk revealed they have been recording:
"One of the things we have been doing of late is recording studio
versions of the new material [only previously played live]. We’ve used
the live recordings as a template, and I’ve done guitars, overdubs and
backing vocals. Whether that comes out as a King Crimson album or
whether it lies in the vaults, I don’t know."
Having followed the band since 1969, I choose to take the "break up" as just another hiatus. Call me an eternal optimist.
In the meantime, there are tons of "new" old recordings available on DGM Live.
Absolutely one of the best King Crimson songs ever!
You might want to expand your resources.
I've heard A Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Selling England by the Pound on RP.
and a few other early genesis songs, too. carpet crawlers, special way, squonk...
I wonder why RP plays King Crimson and not the early Genesis (up to and including the incredible Selling England by the Pound)

People really need to open their eyes.
Eyes wide open. It's just too dark to see.
And the award for the creepiest album art in history goes to....
preview of 2020-early '22 and some of the still panic stricken
A solid 4 for me.
I keep trying to like them, but it’s shite, there moments where I think “oh” and then I realise it’s still hippy rubbish.
I don't think of Crimson as hippy-esque at all - it strikes me as angular. What KC comes across to me is very mental, very head-centered (Talking Heads also strike me that way). To put it another way, the musicianship and complexity of what they are playing is rather fascinating. It's impressive that way. But it is lacking a certain amount of heart & belly... I say that as someone who likes most of their work.

Ha ha. I shouldn't appreciate this comment, but I do. Thanks for the laugh, friend. This gets a 1 from me. Plus a PSD if I feel that way inclined.
edit: Unfortunately, I've recently watched "Toyah & Robert's Sunday Lunch" podcasts on YouTube. I've never felt so embarrassed in all my life...

It is interesting to observe the drummers watching each other. No spontaneous combustion took place.
The new 8-man three-drummer configuration is magnificent.

Did you know that if you experience a once in half a century wildfire event in July, that it is more likely to happen in August and then more likely to happen the following year?
Wisdom.
Hope you are enjoying the increased traffic congestion in the Lower Wasteland. :-)
Yes, the forest fires and traffic congestion seem to be getting worse every year.
All the more reason to escape to RP! ; )

Is it true they have 3 drummers!?!!
Yes, they do. Gavin Harrison, who I had heard of but did not really know, is one of those folks who channel the pulse of creation into a drum set. The precision exhibited by this band is a thing to behold. What they accomplish is comparable to a symphony orchestra in the tightness and timing. Plus, Tony Levin is part of the crowd. I missed their alleged last tour ever last year, then they came around again. Pretty exceptional.

He's going on tour soon...
The Discipline era version of these guys was well worth the time, but then it fell into unattractive noise.
But the 2014-2015 iteration - THAT's worth listening to.
Three drummers, Mel Collins and Tony Levin. Sheesh. Great stuff. Smart music for people who like that sort of stuff.
Cause you never know what you might see"
Now there's a real epiphany Kind of a dumb song.
......"those that don't know, don't know that they don't know".....HA!

So, if I tell US Customs that I am going to a King Crimson concert, will that get me barred from entering the USA?
You think they need a reason...? Paaaah!!!!!
I'd go just to see Gavin Harrison. One of the best (and least known) drummers out there today.

You may have trouble getting back into Canada though

Absolutely agree, this song is dreadful.
It's Trey Gunn actually, you really should check him out!
That through me for a loop. Could have sworn that was Levin playing his ever popular 'stick'.
I flashed back to having lunch with Belew in Jersey City, while filming Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave, geez...
Reagan daze
Nice! What memories, I'm sure.
State of the NHS?.....
(For them what prob'ly don't know : NHS = National Health Service of the UK)
Everybody in my church loves this song...
Here you will not hear ... Alas.

Exactly, It has grated on me for years. Just get somewhere with the song but it just noodles on in perpetuity.
Sounds like Levin. Am I right? Love that resonant electric bass of his.

Check out Pat Mastellotto (sp?). He played drums with KC for awhile, and has a number of projects going. Similar musical vein.
He lives in Dripping Springs, his wife is a long-time friend.
No kidding and I think this is one older band that could still sound relevant, current....like they are from this era....
this might push me to learn how to upload songs...
Please do.
It's a detail from "Fin de Siecle" (End of the Century) by P.J. Crook - a British painter and sculptor, and no, it has nothing to do with the past, present, or future state of American health care.

King Crimson two times in one day makes this day brilliant :)
But there's still too few KC tracks in RP (compared to Talking Heads or Pink Floyd for example...)
TOTALLY agree! Suggestions would include a few tracks from Discipline, Thrak, 3 of a Perfect Pair, Beat, among others...all of which would be, ahem, music to the ears, of most RP listeners, and are much better than this track.

Darn — I wish it were going to be SACD, but I'll take what I can get. I know neither format is really doing well, but some of my favorite albums have been remastered and remixed tastefully (!!!) in SACD 5.1 and when it's done right, it's almost like hearing them again for the first time. The Depeche Mode and Genesis remasters/remixes in SACD 5.1 are stunning, as is Roxy Music's "Avalon," Steely Dan's "Gaucho," Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" and Mark Knopfler's "Shangri-La" (which is just incredible).
I'm getting goosebumps just thinking of a Wilson remaster of their back catalogue.
Besides, DTS (DVD-Audio) kills SACD in dynamic range and top end signal-to-noise.
The proprietary SACD 1-bit sampling equipment introduces or fails to filter out some rather nasty noise around the 60khz range. This noise is noticeable as beat frequency artifacts on top end tweeters but is filtered out mechanically on stuff like soft domes. ;)
...steven wilson is remastering king crimson, really?..
Fripp picked SW to remaster the entire KC back catalogue.
Love Crimso.

I think it's the future of health care. That's the waiting room you can see in the background.
So that must be Michelle Obama with her hand on the baby!

I'm so clueless I thought it was PT till Bill followed it with an actual PT song forcing me to check out the playlist.
I wouldn't call that clueless at all ... I'd say that was an artful segue from the master.
I was just thinking this has a Porcupine Tree feel to it.

I second those recommendations!
Thanks for the recommendations!
Its one thing to"source" it, and another thing entirely to ape it. . .
I was just thinking this has a Porcupine Tree feel to it.
Only fitting since the bands are close friends and GH is drumming for them.

I'm with you. Of course I've heard of King Crimson but other than In 'The Court of The Crimson King', I haven't heard much music from this talented band, even though they've put out many albums. Thanks RP, feel free to play more King Crimson.

Sounds ok on my phone speaker if I press it into one ear.
