For a while I didn't know what to think, darling
This is what I look like now
Me and the boy of my dreams
It's a nice photo, he has a girl
But I'm going to bump her off soon
Oh, I have a big surprise
I'm coming to London, possibly this summer
I'd love to spend some time with you
I'd love to spend some time with you
I hear things are outrageously priced in London
Is that true?
Anyway, I'm still at school in Minneapolis
Studying theatre, oh, what fun it is
Everybody seems to be the same here
There's no happy medium, no way to go but up
Please send me a postcard, I collect them
Back in the 80s I began doing Stand-up in Boston. One of the things I would do is visualize myself on stage with this song playing in the background. It has always lifted my spirits whenever I hear it! Thank you for playing it Bill!
If my way back memory-machine is still functioning I recall that this track maybe got some play on The Spirit of Radio CFNY back in the day (before whatever corporate monster bought them) ? Anyone care to confirm my rather foggy recollections?
First time hearing this (Nov 2025) but it sounds very much like something The Mars Bar would have been spinning, or that we’d have danced to at Nuts & Bolts.
Totally takes me back to when CD's were still pretty new, I still reflexively stop what I'm doing and crank it up!
Does this sound like Ultravox to anybody?
or Alan Parsons?

Yup!
Edit: I had heard "Painted Moon" and "I See Red" just not this song, it's just that I couldn't remember, had to go and do some research. I feel grounded again... hahaha.
Wish the voice over was better mixed here. I can barely make out the words.
They're printed in the "Lyrics box" in the middle column.
Here i am sitting in my 'Safe European English Home' and i've NEVER even heard of this band before!
I dunno how that's even possible, but it is.
It made me stop, look,& read. Now i wanna hear it again...
Makes me wonder why a band from Scotland would pick Minneapolis/St. Paul?
I suppose it was a direct connection, but a part of me likes to think they are throwing darts at map in a pub in Edinburgh. What would be the inverse? Prince writing a song called "Postcards from Dundee"
It's a pun using the idea of letters from the apostle Paul.
It's a shame the lyrics aren't better mixed because they're really out there.
I've always loved this song. I still have the vinyl, which I bought in the late 80's.
I have it on vinyl as well. The entire album is great, especially this instrumental.

Exactly my sentiment. This was a favourite of mine at the time. I'm so pleased to finally hear it on RP!
Precisely the same thoughts for me! Wonderful song, brings back very fond memories. A bit surprised not to hear it on RP before.
So glad to hear this! Haven't heard this in years!
