Being stupid at work and risking the lives of your family aren't necessarily related (other than the idea of flying a 60 year old private plane has an unnecessary level of risk attached to it considering their are private aviation deaths almost every week in the US).
As you note....it's incredibly sad... and a brutally difficult thing to live with. We have friends whose parent accidentally killed their 8 year old son... and the pain never goes away.

Oh man. I hadn't heard about his previous history with crashes. That's rough.

As making someone angry clearly isn't part of the scope I'm in, I have to excuse myself for making someone angry; well knowing deep inside, some folks want to be angry all the time and they just can't resist from it (...and God is on their side).

Crafted a unique, efficient, high-quality, very appreciated niche function that others haven't been able to duplicate. Have a team of fifteen who seem to really like the job, and my leadership. Clients love what we do. I routinely get acknowledged as one of the best in northern CA at this job. Have won other awards, including our version of an Oscar.
New leadership. Has no idea what mistakes were made fifteen-twenty years ago, because they were still in college then. Took me into a room today and told me that they were taking the whole thing apart to create a DMV-like experience - because that's what people want. It's what we had in the past, and was so expensive and disliked that it had to be taken apart.
My team will have to learn new skills, be deployed elsewhere. Quality will become haphazard. Costs will go up - we're taking order and creating chaos.
Fortunately, I can retire in two years - which is about how long it will take for this to all play out... My project will be dismantled as I head for the rocking chair.
Now. Do the competitors want my knowledge if these folks don't?.... can you say no? and keep the team together? are there any laws preventing you? just curious my job is somewhat similar clowns bureaucrats on top with a lot of power that don't know what they're doing
