Sorry to say that CP flopped more than Meshell.

Anyway, lyrics available:

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1: Meshell Ndegeocello]
You were workin' as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, I turned you around
I turned you into someone new
Now five years later on, you've got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don't forget, it's me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too

[Pre-Chorus: Meshell Ndegeocello]
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me
It's much too late to find
That you think you've changed your mind
You'd better change it back, or we'll both be sorry
We'll both be sorry

[Chorus: Meshell Ndegeocello]
Don't you want me, baby?
Don't you want me? Ooh
Don't you want me, baby?
Don't you want me? Ooh

[Verse 2: Cat Power & Meshell Ndegeocello]
I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then, I knew I'd find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we've had have been such good times
I still love you (I know)
But now I think it's time I live my life on my own
I guess it's just what I must do

[Pre-Chorus: Cat Power, Meshell Ndegeocello & Cat Power]
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me (Don't you want me?)
It's much too late to find
You think you've changed your mind
You'd better change it back, or we will both be sorry (We'll both be sorry, we'll both be sorry)

[Chorus: Cat Power & Meshell Ndegeocello]
Don't you want me, baby? (Don't you want me? Yes, I)
Don't you want me? Oh (Don't you want me? Yes, I)
Don't you want me, baby? (Don't you want me? Yes, I)
Don't you want me? Oh, yeah (Don't you want me?)
Don't you want me? Ooh
Don't you want me? Oh
Ouch. I'll try to forget about this cover.
This cover does not add any distinctiveness to the original song. It is just a mediocre performance that lacks originality.

The original song by The Human League is one of the most defining synth popsongs of the (early) eighties. While the melody and the lyrics are quite conventional, the synth sound and voice are really distinctive. I have liked that song ever since I heard it when I was a child, and still do.
Bill, Rebecca, where art thou?
RP, please stop playing unnecessary covers such as this one!
Oh, this is... interesting. A pretty good re-imagining of the original.
