Why did you pull the drawbridge up on me?
Oh-oh, don't freeze me out, no thawing in
I walked right up to the water
Cold shoulder stretching out for miles and miles
My friends had all taken the high road
Forgetting we all
We do stupid shit for love (Stupid shit for love)
Bunch of suckers for connection (Suckers for connection)
I do stupid shit for love (Stupid shit for love)
Like a sucker for attetion
Why did you pull the drawbridge up on me?
Oh-oh, don't freeze me out, no thawing in
I do stupid shit for love (Stupid shit for love)
Like a sucker for a connection (Like a sucker for connection)
I had no money for the boatman
My lover turned her back and walk away
Desire's got us acting crazy
I'm banging at the door
Why did you pull the drawbridge up on me?
Please, please don't freeze me out, no thawing in
I do stupid shit for love (Stupid shit for love)
Like a sucker for a connection (Like a sucker for connection)
Why'd I do this shit for love?
I'm a sucker for attention
If I'm dreaming, can I wake up? (Wake up)
If I'm dreaming, can I wake up now? (Wake up now)
If I'm dreaming, can I wake up? (Wake up)
If I'm dreaming, can I wake up now?
Why did you pull the drawbridge up on me?

I am not offended by explicit language used in music, nor in conversation. The words themselves do not bother me, and I admit, they are in my own vocabulary. However, such words can be used in a manner that are simply a distraction. Case in point, ever known that guy who drops the f-bomb every third or fourth word, just because? Sorry, but I can't help but hear the lyrics of this song in that same manner. I find it distracting and cannot listen to the rest of the things going on in this song. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe it's just me that this song hits me this way, I dunno. I have listened to other tracks on this album, and I'm okay with the artist and those tracks -- just not this one.
For better or for worse, my opinion of Bastille has forever been molded by my adult daughters. They heard a Bastille song (don't know which one) on RP while they were home over the holidays, and they both dismissed it as a "middle school anthem."
Their opinion struck me as being harsh but accurate, and this particular piece isn't helping me change my mind.

Gave it a 6 on first listen, but now it's a 3-4 for me, not more, unfortunately.
The second vocal (singing Why did you pull the drawbridge up on me?) is driving me nuts.

Does have some steam powered giraffe vibe to it

Sounds like you have the slider at the top of your Favorites set all the way to the left. It isn't clearly explained (we'll fix that) but that slider controls the range of ratings that show up on your favorites mix.

William says this song has gotten a "mixed response" so far. Given that at this point it has a 4.4 rating with over 20% giving it a one (count me in that 20%), I'm not sure I'd agree with that assessment. Seems more of a definitively negative response to me.

Thank you William and RP for giving us the power to choose.

Wow, I see this is generating some unusual reactions. I'm not sure myself what I want to vote yet, I guess it's worth a few more go. LoL?
Worth listening to for its honest lyrics...a brilliant line that is repeated but can't be repeated here:)

interesting early dislike for this one. Maybe the falcetto?
Me, I like.
Me, I like.
William: "Give this song a chance" - well, I'll try but I do not have high hopes, that it'll grow on me...
I like it. Kind of a 50s/60s vibe woven through a dancy thing.

I love RP - not so much this song
That is a strange little ditty. But one of the reasons I listen to Radio Paradise is to hear strange little ditties!
