Sweet, but it lacks the depth and gravity of the original from Tom Waits. I also like the Blind Boys of Alabama version better than this. But I also like the diversity!

This has a nice country blues quality. It reminds me somewhat of Elizabeth Cotten and Mississippi John Hurt.

I find this song rather annoying and repetitive, but, like so often, after reading the comments, I see Sarah and her whole body of work-to-come in a different light

Her two songs on RP, this Tom Waits cover and "Shankill Butchers" by The Decemberists, are the only cover songs on the album. Her original songs are more flavored with Americana and more to my liking. I think she will become a presence in the alt/traditional country world...lots of talent as a musician, vocalist, and songwriter.

Good song, but isn't it a little too soon to cover it? It seems too fresh to me.
She went to Wimberley High School with my son — they just graduated May 09. you talk about a focused young woman. What an accomplishment for a 17 year old....my son and his friends are just wondering where they can skateboard.

Tom Waits should be paying her to cover this. It's great stuff. That mandolin really puts it over the finish line.

Unfortunately, I too detected a whiff of auto tune in the vocals so I subtracted two points. I vote we ban that piece of crap from anything not Britney Spears.
