One if the finest debut albums of all time - it's a BIG 9
BIG 10 over here
Busted - Ray Charles
Mercedes Benz - Janis Joplin
Easy Money - Rickie Lee Jones
too good......
Easy Money - Todd Snider
Thought of about 2004. Boy, I missed that much the first time! It sounds much younger than it is. I dunno if that's overall quality or some kind of joyfulness present here.
Great opening band, and then she came out and sang lead. Awesome set.
Old Man Rivers was 'da place in those days. They were booking acts that 6 months later were national names. John Prine, The Police, Red Rockers, etc, etc,

So her and Tom Waits were a couple for awhile.
Can ya imagine being in a room with them when they wanted to make music, talk, eat dinner, etc.?
Etc? LOL!

Just a mis-match in styles-much the same way that I respect both her and Dylan, but don't really 'get' them.
This, on the other hand, just hooks me. Don't know why, just a solid, happy roll with it thing.
Nice.

It's a Black Friday consumer set.
and again lovin this
Enjoying the money playlist:
I'm Busted
Mercedez Benz
Easy Money
Often Bill is too subtle for me. Sometimes a full-frontal is helpful for those of us are not paying full attention.
Perhaps some Pink Floyd would be an obvious addition to the list? Too obvious?
Too Pink Floyd already.

How about King Crimson? Ultra-obvious, would be my guess.

Hearing it again on Black Friday, 2021.

It's as much of a song as any blues song ...
For a career that spans 30 plus years how do you "peak" with your debut album?
Ask Orson Welles about "peaking" with one's debut work. Well...you can't because he's dead, but still...you likely know what I mean.
Speaking of Orson Welles, there's this classic.
Indeed. Even more remarkable for a debut.
They dated for a while but I don't think they ever recorded any music together. As mentioned further down in the thread, Lowell George did a version of this song before this release.

....... and me
Spot on! This woman is is in all ways gorgeous (imo), this delightful tune sounds Dr. Rebenack-ee
I see that one of the more interesting cuts, "Night Train," isn't in rotation. Pity. Some marvelous acoustic guitar work on that track.
One of my all-time favorites too. Ain't she great?

I'd like to hear that!
Or did you mean, "She sounds like Jewel when I'm drunk"? I already know what that sounds like.

I assumed she was covering it, but I just discovered she wrote it.
He covered it.
She's been around for a while I guess.

I disagree - it's a story song that's delightfully wicked. The way the thing progresses from two women trying to rip off a guy to the guy flying out the door with their "easy money," and the subsequent cat fight... Oh, it's great. And I agree - she does it right. Always.
who's real ?
you real ?
Studio album? Not so much.
Live? Phenomenal.
Very true. I saw her live in Denver during the PopPop tour, and she blew me away.
