It takes a Nation
Is it just my hallucination?
These microphones designed like war drones
Who drop bombs
Upon women, children, and moms
Gots the nerve to bring it here in this atmosphere
Who really cares? Even those closest near
Pickup trucks creatin' fear
Who wake up caught, mad at the mirror
Woke with nobody to hear ya

With a bad attitude
Forget how you look
Because ugly is under your face, my dude
No biggie, I figured
Can you rap a verse
Without first writing a curse?

Diamond in the teeth
Media beef
Diggin' the scene on the shit I'm seeing
Hmmmm...

Create fast like
You're gonna die tomorrow
Posting ain't talking
Texting ain't writing
Scrolling and reading
Grits ain't groceries, cyborg soul
[?]
Chess ain't checkers
I'm in a world you can hope to get to
Better pray your current world
Don't forget you, let you
I'm everywhere, nowhere at the same time
Should be a crime
Now losing my rhyme
64 bars to memorize
Saw a shrink to help me get it hypnotized
Hmmmm...

Five fingers of Black Death
Hypertension, diabetes, cancer, stress
Toxic, worst of everything
Bad food fueling the youth
Killing middle age
Killing OGs too

More than street beef and shooting
Is it beef stuck in your teeth?
What is you doin?
Time is like a river
Running like dark liquor on the liver
Fix my mouth to deliver
Hmmmm...

William's playing a lot more rap/hip hop here lately. Maybe he's going through a phase, I sure hope so, and I hope it passes soon. I absolutely recognize William's right to play what he wants. The fact that he plays what he wants is the biggest reason why RP is hands down the best station on earth. But rap/hip hop sucks and always will suck, and the sooner I stop hearing it on RP the happier I will be.

Maybe RP can start a rap/hip hop station and the main mix could be spared...

Wow, are you missing out. I'm not a fan of the gangsta/thug life artists, but I totally get the anger and disenchantment they represent. Honestly not much difference between the anger here and the anger of some of the folk movement of the 60s - and for the same reasons.
[Pedantic aside -- "rap" is a musical style, while "hip-hop" is a culture spanning music, language, clothing, behavior, etc.]
Force yourself to listen to "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five then tell me you don't get it. For something lighter, "Christmas in Hollis" from Run DMC.
Tracks here from Michael Franti and Spearhed would count as rap, too, I think. "Light Up Ya Lighter," "Pray For Grace," "Yell Fire!" Listen more carefully and I think you'll realize that William and company have been playing rap for longer and more often than you think.

Full disclosure, I used to be in the (c)rap camp. The I opened my ears and my mind.

There's a skip button my dude.

But this *is* a pretty cool track.

Same ole, same ole.  Boring. Old. Formulaic.  Ho hum.  Following the script.  Rinse and repeat.

Hey guys maybe you need to scream MuthaF and Ass... and Coc....a few more times to try and relive 1990.

And I forgot:  scream dahood a few times.  Maybe ya need new song writers.   Yeeeeah  Boooooooy!

Idiot Wind sounds like conservative responses to rock n roll in the 50s and 60s...

The problem here is multi-faceted... 1. PE doesn't use those swear terms, and they are explicitly political, observational, etc. And they incorporate pretty interesting samples... 2. Even when rap has done that (swearing etc.) it's usually incorporating a certain degree of anger, cultural representation, and other aspects of the black experience that are worth considering... Lots of rap sucks, and lots of it represents some of the most interesting music of the last 30 years.

Not my normal—which is exactly why I listen to RP.

Hell yeah ... Public Enemy.
I saw them OPEN for U2 in 1991 on the ZooTV tour ... Blew my mind.
Not a popular choice.
I suspect that Bill will file this under "Another damn of the damns not given".
But, yah, go ahead and give it the rating you want, if it makes you feel better.
Nice! Huge P.E. fan since I was like 12.
Flava Flav!
Sorry, but playing of new Public Enemy in 2025 on RP is going to earn at least an 8 from me.
Excellent choice RP.
Keep the minds open, not in the rut.
dope. Some just don't get it
really low brow
Chuck D's still got it.

Nice callback to their big second album in the first line.
