R.E.M.'s music was the soundtrack of my youth...I just turned 64 a couple months ago and painted the entire first floor of my house...took me 12 hours a day for 3 days...decided to listen to the entire R.E.M. catalogue while painting...just me and R.E.M. alone for 3 days...pure joy...not the painting part, but the music part...

So grateful that this band and myself grew up together...

I generally like REM. I never bought any of their albums but there are many songs I enjoy. To the  point of bands that I've bought all there albums and gone to their concerts I think that may be the problem. Too  much of a good thing. There are bands that I also used love that I can't listen to anymore. Some of it's gone stale, some I have grown to dislike, some I just wore out. That's why when a favorite song comes on now I hit mute if I've heard it recently. I don't want to grow tired of it.

Irregardless whether or not the songs are good or bad, they're getting played in an endless repetitive cycle that is getting shorter and shorter. It's taking the fun out of it.

More R.E.M. across any year, please! Their older stuff is great, middle obviously popular and arguably great, and their late-career stuff really good too. I rank R.E.M. in my top two American bands.

Also in grad school, in Atlanta, at this time. WRAS, Georgia State University radio, was a new wave station that gave much air time to the Athens sound, this and many talented but lesser known groups as well.  What a great time musically to be there!

Kate Pierson voice: equally cutting and comforting.

Not a fan of that Stipe's personality, but do enjoy a lot of REM tunes.

Not that it has 1 thing to do with this R.E.M. song but only because it's a cold, dreary Sunday afternoon and I was reading the tea box, not leaves, waiting for the kettle to boil while this song played, yes yes getting to the point here, but is R.E.M. the only American rock band to have ever successfully employed the oil/word "bergamot" in a song? Could be.

I'll join you in that. "Classic rock" radio killed REM for me, so it's good to hear a captivating tune that wasn't murdered and borified by offputting ad finitum FM Twister repeats.

Probably my fav REM song. They were way overplayed on FM radio and it drove me nuts, like they were the pop music messiah. Everybody Hurts Twister Losing My Religion. How about losing the repetitive noise? But this track I did not hear often enough. Good tune, and the lady backer really makes it work.
