So Trump convened a Whoâs Who of all of the top oil CEOs looking for fawning approval of this actions in Venezuela and a commitment to invest in the Venezuelan oil industry.
Yep its about election integrity. Venezuela has been mentioned many times as an example of the kind of tomfuckery permitted by systems like Smartmatic and Dominion, there have been whistleblowers etc, and I am sure Trump has a few questions for Maduro about these systems, particularly as they relate to 2020 and Arizona and Georgia.
This new line of nuttery is particularly entertaining.

indeed, can't wait to see your investigation board.
Yep it's about the oil. Not that the USA really needs it, but China does. Iran will be next, probably. Oh, look whats happening there! Without Iranian and Venezuelan oil, China runs into problems powering itself, particularly the AI-race. It's true the refineries further south in the USA are built to refine heavy grades of crude, and the shale oil currently coming out the ground in many places is too light for those refineries, so a supply of heavy crude will keep those refineries working happily, so it doesn't hurt. But, the Venezuelan oil issue is really about basically-free oil to China. Venezuela owes billions to China (belt-and-road shit) and free oil is the repayment method. I guess Venezuela is basically now defaulting on it's Chines debt. Soz......and then there is Russia and the Ukraine thing, and Russian capability to continue that debacle is dependent on oil prices being higher than lower. Then there is Cuba dependent on Venezuelan oil, too.
Yep its about the drugs, the USA is dealing with a chemical warfare situation costing around 100k lives a year. Fentanyl is a bigger issue than nose-candy, but chemical warfare is chemical warfare, and Venezuela is a big supply and transhipment channel.
Yep its about removing a dictator. Not so much about regime change, but 25 years under one leader is nothing other than a dictatorship. Venezuelans haven't benefitted from their oil for a long time and don't seem to care if the USA gets it, they are just happy to be rid of their dictator. You can't be all 'No Kings! No Kings!' one day and then 'Leave the dictators alone!' the next....smells like hypocrisy to me. It's also possible that Maduro wanted to make some sort of deal with Trump but couldn't because he was stuck between a rock (China) and a hard place (Cuban protection squads under Chinese direction), and so this raid was run as a way out for him. We may never know.

Yep it's about cartels, remembering that cartels cant really operate without the banks that facilitate their activities, so it's about cartels and the banks. I heard Rubio or Trump drop the word Canada into one of their addresses. That struck me as weird, but then lookee lookee - Carney was BigBoss of which bank before PM of Canada? I think banks are under scrutiny too.
Yep its about putting the region on notice and hemispheric defence, particularly those leaders of entities in the region who are pawns of China - FAFO.
Overall, It looks to me like a pretty cheap way to achieve a whole bunch of useful outcomes. You may not like those outcomes because y'all love China and can't wait to wave your little red books, but from where I sit they look like decent outcomes to me.
A bit like 3D chess while everyone else has been playing checkers for decades....pretty masterful.
Everyone knows that beyond telling the military what he wanted to do and the military minds working up the detailed plans to do so and executing on them... things are going to go to sh*t from this point forward. It is only a matter of time on how quickly that happens. That is the Trump way.
I guess we should all be lucky that the details weren't leaked in an open chat this time. progress
Marco "a man of this world" Rubio is a quiet lap hound raised in sleazey Miami and taught not to bark too loud when the orange turd makes crazy moves. Gang Of Pathetics following the rapist douchebag Rumpy Dump.
I guess that we find out the answers together. One thing is clear, Trump is running a tight ship on this. This operation has been planned long ago and the plan was not leaked, a major accomplishment all by itself. Not to mention the flawless execution of the plan. Maduro could have saved himself and split to Turkey and be living large if he had listened to Trump.
I was surprised when it happened. I thought that the blockade was as far as we were taking it in the medium term. Evidently there is some conflation of Trump's remark about keeping the oil as it pertains to a captured tanker and not the entirety of Venezuela's oil reserves.
My guess is that Rubio is more in charge than anyone else in getting things to work in Venezuela. For me, Rubio is the right man at the right time. He is a man of this world he is now engaging and can rightfully say don't bullshit the bullshitter in negotiations.
So until something else happens, I'm watching Rubio to see what might happen next.
LIttle Marco, born in Miami to Cuban parents, is a "man of this world"?
I have a Ukrainian aunt and a Russian business partner... I can end the war in a day.
To paraphrase... you're gonna find reasons to support whatever noise comes from Fox and the WH for a problem that will likely be around long after Trump is gone (unless he lives to 95 and anoints himself emperor of the United States of Trump, which he'll do right after we annex Trumpland from the Danes).
I assume you caught Trump's comments about impeachment yesterday. He obviously has concerns/awareness that a lot of his actions are inappropriate (putting it nicely).
You're pretty clear on what it's not, so are we in charge? Trump says he's running the place... what does that mean?
