Tonight, as I enjoy my first Gin Bothy Speycast and tonic, listening to music I've never heard before.  I'm pulling out the headphones for some nasty blues and Jethro Tull folk tunes, maybe some Koko Taylor and Rolling Stones.  And Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings... that always makes me cry (I can still see Willem DaFoe running after the helicopter lifted and drifted away, as gunfire struck his entire body until he dropped).

I am truly a lucky girl.

So my right hand started getting numb and weak where I can barely grab a cup of coffee not alone do any writing. My right hand is my dominant hand and is worse than the left was. I’ve been trying all kinds of hand exercises to no avail.

I’m really hesitant in going back to this doctor cause it seems like she only wants to do surgery only. I might have to find another hand specialist for a second opinion. I really would like to know the root cause of why both hands have become weak out of the blue.

Sorry to hear about your malaise, Gene.

Nerve blockages and obstructions in hands and arms can be caused by herniated disks in the spine of the neck, or by something else lower in your periphery. Common are blockages from limescale (and such) deposits in the shoulders and muscles, occuring with age and certain (typically western civilizational) diets.
For your good, I hope for the latter, or a similar situation, instead of spinal.
Imaging techniques usually help clearing up such a situation.

In case they tell you it is from a herniated disk in the neck, please be very careful and hesitant about any sugggested surgery, unless you have clear symptoms of paralysis.
Paralysis should be treated with surgery, if possible asap, my favorite neurosurgeon other surgeons would trust told me.
At any rate, mind the risk of paraplegia due to surgery on the neck gone bad.

Not speaking about common nerve diseases, infections, or autoimmune diseases here, which also should be looked at. These would ask for different treatment methods, based on diet and medication.

All the best wishes for you from one alter Sack to another!

One symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency is muscle weakness. Ask your doctor about it.

Damn right hand seems to be getting worse. So numb and stiff to the point where it was almost useless and impossible to brush my teeth or hold a cup of coffee. Life is so much fun the older I get.

But her (then) boyfriend right away introduced her to his brother (he was 9 years older and they were very close) who instantly clicked with my daughter. When my daughter got married, her brother-in-law told his brother you chose the right one.

I could say more about how great a person her brother-in-law was, but nothing is private here. So you'll have to take my word for it.
